History and organ donation

From William Easterly's book The Tyranny of Experts: Economists, Dictators, and the Forgotten Rights of the Poor, p. 141:
And finally we get to organ donors. Analyzing data from within Italy, another set of Italian economists found that the twelfth-century history discussed above still matters for values today. Cities that were free in the twelfth century are more likely to have organ-donor associations today. (Emphasis added).
Freedom and history matters, and really old freedom and history still matters!
